Founded in Lithuania in 2014, ESBA, the European Senior Basketball Association, has quickly emerged as the top masters basketball federation based in Europe.

ESBA has historically run an outstanding annual championship for mostly European teams. 

However, in 2023 in Albufeira, Portugal, ESBA expanded its excellent annual event to include teams from both North and South America.

The non-profit ESBA has hosted weeklong championships in Liepaja, Latvia in 2014; Antalya, Turkey in 2015; Porec, Croatia in 2016; Santander, Spain in 2017; Pula, Croatia in 2018; Altea, Spain in 2019 and most recently in Albufeira, Portugal in 2023..

ESBA’s goal is to unite the veterans’ basketball movement in Europe by providing an affordable, top-flight product for men and women. 

By every indication, ESBA is succeeding. Its well-organized tournaments offer terrific competition, fun social activities and state-of-the-art digital updates like on-line scores, schedules, statistics, standings, player profiles, photos and player accreditation.

FIMBA, the Federation of International Masters Basketball, has established itself as a standard in global Old School Hoops.

Founded in 1991 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, FIMBA has developed an enviable model for hosting global masters’ basketball events.

Since then, FIMBA has hosted 16 World Championships, 12 Pan American Championships, 12 European Championships, 7 Elite World Leagues, a few Caribbean Championships and an annual World Maxi Basketball Day.

The basketball planet is keenly aware of FIMBA’s accomplishments. 

The International Olympic Committee hails FIMBA as the world’s best senior sports federation. FIBA has adopted some of its pioneering firsts like incorporating an electronic score sheet and requiring a defibrillator on each court during games. 

FIMBA’s age categories for its tournaments range from 30 to 65 for women and 35 to 80 for men.

FIMBA's 12th Pan AmericanChampionship will be held in Merida, Mexico in April 2024.
